The man who threatened to jump off a bridge in Augusta Wednesday morning has been identified.
Sammy Detroy Richards, 36, was involved in a standoff on the Bobby Jones Expressway bridge over Deans Bridge Road for two and a half hours but eventually decided not to jump.
Traffic was at a complete halt while the standoff was going on.
Sheriff Richard Roundtree said he thinks a recent breakup with his girlfriend was the reason for his distress. Roundtree says there were signs Richards had injected some sort of narcotic and was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
No charges were filed at the time of the standoff however the Richmond County Sheriffs Department has confirmed that Richards does have an outstanding warrant.
