Detroit born Bobbie Smith is most famously remembered for singing Philly Soul with his childhood friends who later became world famous as The Spinners. The group formed in high school as The Domingoes in the Detroit suburb of Ferndale. The core friends who had the longest run as group members were lead singer Smith, Pervis Jackson, Billy Henderson and, now the last surviving original member, Henry Fambrough. The Spinners were originally signed to Motown in the 60's and Smith sang lead on the classics That's What Girls Are Made For, I'll Always Love You and Truly Yours. In the 70's, they had picked up co-lead Phillipe "Soul" Wynne, signed with Atlantic Records and with Producer Thom Bell recorded here in Philly. Smith and Wynne became twin leads with Smith starting and Wynne finishing the hits Then Came You (with Dionne Warwick), Love Or Leave, One Of A Kind Love Affair and Mighty Love. Then Smith took the lead himself on the chart toppers Games People Play, Could It Be I'm Falling In Love and I'll Be Around. Smith died at the age of 76.
